Our Libraries
As a school, we are committed to helping every child discover a genuine love of reading and to understand the powerful role it plays in learning and in life beyond Lingfield. Reading is woven through our curriculum and celebrated as both a vital skill and a source of enjoyment, curiosity and imagination.
Our well-stocked school library offers a wide range of high-quality texts for all ages and interests, providing children with regular opportunities to browse, explore new authors and develop their personal reading preferences. Alongside this, our dedicated non-fiction library houses carefully selected texts linked to our Contexts for Learning, enabling children to deepen subject knowledge through rich, purposeful reading. In every room, class libraries feature a range of stories and information texts, pitched to the age and stage of fluency and vocabulary expected.
We actively celebrate reading across the school community. In Reception and Key Stage 1, parents volunteer as "Mystery Readers" and in Key Stage 2, classes take part in friendly competitions based on the number of books read, helping to motivate and inspire enthusiastic readers. Each term, children who demonstrate Personal Best effort and commitment to reading are rewarded through our book vending machine - a much-loved feature that allows them to choose and keep a new book for their class.
Events such as World Book Day are firm highlights in our school calendar, bringing everyone together to share stories, recommend favourites and celebrate the joy of reading in creative and memorable ways.
Together, these experiences ensure that reading is valued, visible and vibrant across our school, supporting children to become confident, motivated and lifelong readers.
