Design and Technology (DT)

At Lingfield, we aim to inspire children to become innovative and resourceful designers who can use their imagination to solve real-life problems. Design Technology is closely linked to our Contexts for Learning and year group entrepreneurial projects to ensure purposeful application.

Children begin by developing practical skills such as cutting, shaping and joining in Early Years and Key Stage 1.

As they progress into Key Stage 2, children apply and refine these techniques through increasingly complex projects involving woodwork, textiles and food technology. Through a structured design process of planning, making and evaluating, children develop technical understanding and creativity while drawing on learning from mathematics, science, computing and art.

By the end of Key Stage 2, children demonstrate resilience, precision and thoughtful design thinking, understanding how processes lead to improvement.
